The son of a leather smuggler (leather is contraband!?), A human vampire who was making a nice living as a doctor and found out by accident, a soldier that killed everyone on the ship he was on tenure with while he was in the mists of a psychotic breakdown, a princess with an efreet, a mad scientist and a violinist who is recently the first non-human vampire (she didn't know she was a vampire at the time, would have been interesting to put on the resume)... With 'good guys' like this the "bad guys" are boring in comparison.
